Visit

One village, one art form. About 100 km out of Hyderabad.

Cherial sits in Siddipet district, and Cheriyal paintings take their very name from it. A trip here is not a mall visit: it's a slow-hire detour into a village where the painted scroll tradition materially began — and where a handful of family studios still open their doors.

Getting there

  • From Hyderabad — roughly 100 km north-east by road; the craft-travel write-ups place the drive at about 2–2½ hours via Karimnagar highway routes.
  • From Siddipet — the district HQ is the closest big town for accommodation and food, as travellers' guides commonly note.
  • Pair the trip — Siddipet's Gollabhama weaving is the district's other GI craft, often combined on the same route.

Reaching the studio

This Google listing publishes no phone number and no hours — the studio is contactable through its own channels:

  • Instagram: @cheriyal_paintings_ ↗ (అశ్విని గణేశ్) — DM for custom orders and exhibits.
  • YouTube: @cherial_paintings ↗ — 48 shorts of work from the bench.
  • Best practice: arrange the timing before travelling — rural workshops keep their own schedules.

Know before you go

  • Cheriyal scroll painting is a GI-tagged regional craft of Telangana.
  • The canonical red panel comes from khadi cloth, layered adhesive grounds, natural pigments and squirrel-hair brushes.
  • October–March is the comfortable window for Telangana village trips, per Telangana tourism round-ups.
  • If photographs of the workshop matter to you, ask permission — cameras in working studios are a courtesy question, not a right.
