Cherial village · Siddipet district · Telangana
Where Telangana's 400-year-old scroll art is still painted by hand.
This is the village home of Cheriyal painting — the GI-tagged Nakashi art of khadi scrolls, deep maroon skies and folk stories — kept alive today by a small circle of artisan families. Ganesh Nakashi Art Works is one of them: a working family studio posting its masks, panels and painted crafts straight from the village.

The last village of a dying art·and a family still painting
Cheriyal (Nakashi) painting
Stylised Nakashi art that grew up in Cherial, Siddipet district: narratives from the Ramayana, Mahabharata, Krishna tales and village life, painted on layered khadi canvas in bold outlines over a signature deep-red ground. When storytellers still toured the Telugu countryside with musical instruments, the painted scroll was their visual script.
The craft holds a Geographical Indication tag of Telangana, and as press profiles have noted, it survives through only a handful of artist families — including a husband-and-wife team from this village whose work was chronicled by The NewsMinute and The Hindu.
